An important mission of the Cuyahoga Valley Youth Ballet, since its founding in 1975, has been to bring original ballets to children in their schools.

Each year, the youth ballet has carried this mission to more than 9,000 school age children throughout Northeast Ohio. CVYB dancers as well as parent volunteers give up their own school and work time to share their ballet performances with other school children. Prior to the performance, the CVYB provides teachers with an educational package designed to educate students about the ballet.

In November, 2008, the CVYB gave three performances of Nutcracker Swings for elementary-aged students in Dover High School's auditorium. Nutcracker Swings is an original ballet choreographed by Frances Patrelle for CVYB. In April 2009, the company gave three performances of The Empty Pot, also choreographed by Mr. Patrelle at Akron's historic Civic Theater for Akron school children.
